Funds assured for key Lewis and Clark event. Government, private groups contribute for July activities at Pillar

Clark on the Yellowstone, the celebration at Pompeys Pillar in July to mark the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition is "free, fun and funded."

Yellowstone County Commissioner Bill Kennedy used the catchphrase Wednesday to announce that the $1.5 million budget for the events has been met.

As plans have been developed for the four-day National Signature Event at Pompeys Pillar, Kennedy said, one of the first questions in many people’s minds has been, "How will it be paid for?"

"I can say today the event is funded, and it’s going to pull off in July," Kennedy said. "The final piece of the financial puzzle is in."
