Chinook Wireless plans to bring cutting-edge GSM technology to Montana

Customers of one local cell phone company soon will be on the cutting edge of wireless technology.

This summer customers of Great Falls-based Chinook Wireless http://www.chinookwireless.com/ will switch to GSM technology, the advanced cell phone operating system used across much of Europe, Africa and Asia.

The new "GSM" phones work from a chip that can be slipped into different handsets. The chip stores the customer’s contact list, ring tones and other personalized features.

"You can change your phone every day like you change your clothes every day," said Rebecca Morgan, director of marketing for Chinook, the first company to use GSM technology in Montana.
