Dial *228 for better reception throughout Montana. Your cell needs to be taught the location of the new cell towers

New cell phone towers crop up in Montana all the time.

But your phone won’t be able to communicate with them unless you train it to.

If you get worse reception than others signed up with the same service, you may need to "update" or reprogram your phone to connect with new towers, explained Jamie Kalanick, district manager for Cellular Plus, an authorized Verizon agent.

"Cell phones are a lot like minicomputers, they need to be rebooted as well," Kalanick said.

Cell phone users can call a universal code, *228, to activate their phone. The process involves following simple voice instructions — usually pushing a button or two — and should only take a few minutes.

Most companies recommend that you update your phone once every three months or so.
