Montana train group pushes for north-south ‘feeder service’ that would ferry people from Billings, Bozeman, Helena and Great Falls up to Shelby, where they could catch Amtrak’s Empire Builder.

Jim Green is still hoping to restore passenger train service to southern Montana, but in the meantime he’d settle for a "feeder service" that would ferry people from Billings, Bozeman, Helena and Great Falls up to Shelby, where they could catch Amtrak’s Empire Builder.

That idea was one of many discussed at a regional meeting of the National Association of Railroad Passengers in Havre in late March. Green, who lives in Billings and is president of the Montana/Wyoming Association of Rail Passengers, said the convention drew 63 people from Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Alaska is also in the chapter, but it sent no representatives.
