Environment at Work: Group works to make alternative fuels available across the Boise Valley

Use of biodiesel, ethanol fuels could improve air quality

Several private businesses are teaming up with local environmental officials to bring more alternative fuels to the Treasure Valley.

A Stinker Station in Boise sells E85 fuel — a mix of ethanol and gasoline — to customers, and Baird Oil sells biodiesel to businesses with a fleet of vehicles. But the coalition wants to create more places where people can buy ethanol and biodiesel in the Treasure Valley and help improve the local air quality.

The group already helped Stinker Stations fund the installation of the E85 pump at its station on Main Street in Boise, said Charley Jones, president of Stinker Stations.
