Oil firm, EnCana Oil and Gas USA, gives $2MM to University of Wyoming research

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

EnCana Oil and Gas USA has pledged $2 million toward new research laboratories for the University of Wyoming’s revived petroleum engineering program.

The university announced Wednesday that EnCana will donate $400,000 each of the next five years to establish an EnCana Research Lab and an EnCana Reservoir Simulation Lab, as well as to purchase other laboratories and equipment.

"Industry has been saying it can’t get enough qualified petroleum engineers," said Brian Towler, head of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. "With an anticipated 40 undergraduate students entering the program, we will be able to provide such engineers in the near future."
