Amish group plans to settle near Moore, Montana – Eventually 20 to 25 families will live in the area

Central Montana, home to five Hutterite colonies, is about to become home to a group of the Amish.

John Weaver, who lives in an Amish area 50 miles south of Erie, Penn., confirmed on Thursday he has purchased 160 acres each from Frank Bass and Gary Kruger south of Moore in the shadow of the Big Snowy Mountains.

Weaver said another Amish buyer is buying property from Todd Phillips just southeast of the Bass place. Phillips said the sale is to be completed today (Wednesday).

Two or three families will take up residence in the area at first, Weaver said, and eventually 20 to 25 families will live in the area if they can find property.
