"Ordinary" hero of Hotel Rwanda urges world to stop genocide at MSU presentation

Paul Rusesabagina, the real-life hero of "Hotel Rwanda," said the world turned its back when 800,000 Rwandans were slaughtered in his country.

Now the world must not ignore Sudan’s Darfur region, where genocide is happening again, Rusesabagina said Monday night at Montana State University.

Rusesabagina, 51, spoke to a sold-out crowd of more than 1,400, who stood to applaud him.

He told the story of his desperate struggle in 1994 to save 1,268 innocent people who sought refuge in his hotel.

Rusesabagina’s talk, introduced by Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger and MSU President Geoff Gamble, was sponsored by the MSU Leadership Institute http://www.montana.edu/leadership/ , TIAA-CREF http://www.TIAA-CREF.org , ASMSU, Gamble’s office, University Studies and MSU’s Parent-Family Association.
