Montana conference examines wood waste as fuel – "Fuels for Schools and Beyond"

Montana forests have so much woody debris that if it was made into chips and spread on a football field, the pile would be two miles high, an engineering consultant said Wednesday at a wildfire conference examining use of waste wood as fuel.

"The idea is to use this material (beneficially) rather than burning it up as waste," Denise DeLuca said.

Use of biomass – woody material – led the agenda for the final day of the Montana Communities and Wildfire Conference, organized in part by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.
