Product Development from 30,000 Feet -Or- The things you may never think about that will affect the cost and marketability of your new product…

I’ve found that for many people, who want to develop a new product for the first time, the initial process is simply to jump into the Product Development River head first, blind folded and with no floatation device or helmet.

A recent client was initially of this mindset, but when asked my advice I took them to the top of a 30,000 ft mountain (intellectually, not actually) and took a very broad view of their potential product(s), market(s) and business. Needless to say, this had a huge impact on their vision and plan of action. The blindfold came off and they attacked the development effort with just as much vigor, but with a realistic path, better assessments of funding and resource requirements and more down-to-earth expectations.

Product Development from 30,000 Feet is a result of that view from the mountain. Perhaps you can find a few useful tidbits in this article … and please share with me any thoughts the article may provoke.
