Scholarship Established at the University of Montana to Encourage Future Native American Entrepreneurs

Two students from South Dakota have been selected to receive a new scholarship established at The University of Montana to provide annual awards to Native American students who plan to pursue careers in small business.

The Helen and Dan Kidder Scholarship was established by the Kidders’ daughter, Danielle Ross Aman, and her husband, Tom, of Aberdeen, S.D., to honor her parents. The Kidders are longtime Missoula residents. Helen Kidder worked at UM’s Registrar’s Office and Dan Kidder started and operated Missoula Motor Parts.

This year, the scholarship was administered by the American Indian Business Leaders http://www.aibl.org/ , a national organization headquartered at UM.

Inaugural recipients of the scholarship are Gloria Eastman of Rapid City, S.D., and Kristen Campbell of Watertown, S.D.

Eastman is president of the AIBL chapter at Oglala-Lakota College in Rapid City. She will graduate this spring with a degree in business administration and plans to work in management at a new casino on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Campbell is secretary of the AIBL chapter at Sisseton Wahpeton College in Sisseton, S.D. Her future plans include earning a master’s degree in business administration and starting a roofing business.
