Economic report card. Butte can’t rest on its laurels

There are signs that the Butte economy is moving forward. But some heavy lifting still needs to be done.

First off, Butte received glowing praise from economic watchdog Paul Polzin, director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Montana.

And, John Kasperick, a NorthWestern Energy economist, sees Butte heading back to employment levels prior to the closure of the Anaconda smelter and Berkeley Pit by Atlantic Richfield in the early 1980s.
