AOL to offer broadband service through Qwest

AOL said Friday it will start offering high-speed Internet services nationwide, using Qwest Communications as a provider in Colorado.

The move is seen as an effort by Time Warner’s America Online unit to compete in an increasingly broadband world and offset subscriber losses in its traditional dial-up Internet business.

AOL has about 20 million subscribers in the U.S., which represents about a 25 percent decline from its peak in 2002.

The Virginia-based company said it will offer the high-speed service in Colorado for $25.90 a month.
