Wanzenreid: Montana faces plenty of challenges and the governor’s economic development focus will center on energy.

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer said last week in Missoula that economic development will be the major focus of his administration in the coming months. House Leader Dave Wanzenreid (D-Missoula) told Missoulian.com Monday the governor’s economic development focus will center on energy.

"Sustainable – which is going to be both wind power and green power of any kind," Wanzenreid said. "The other part of it, though, is that he wants to emphasize that we can responsibly develop coal in Montana and have that as one part of that economic development effort."

Wanzenreid also said the governor wants to do something to help economically strapped eastern Montana. While the western part of the state benefits from a relatively good economy and great diversity, the eastern side has "communities that are literally dying.
