Silicon Valley’s latest commodity: Creativity

Silicon Valley, which has survived 40 years of boom and bust in defense, semiconductors, computers and the dot-coms, is reinventing itself once again. After three years of job losses, the region southeast of San Francisco has steadied itself and is re-emerging as the world headquarters of concepts for gadgets, Web sites and consumer products.

That’s the gist of a new report by Joint Venture Silicon Valley, a public-private partnership that tracks trends in this mythic realm, which it defines as 29 California cities from Gilroy north to Foster City and Fremont.
