Bresnan pulls plug on rural customers in Montana

Billboards across Missoula advertise the Nov. 1 addition of digital phone service to Bresnan Communications’ array of cable television and high-speed Internet offerings.

But the New York-based company has also made a quieter announcement this month.

Bresnan mailed 68 letters to customers in Victor, Alberton, Ninemile and Huson, saying the company’s services will no longer be offered in those communities.
The rollout and pullback illustrate a quandary in the highly competitive telecommunications world, even in a rural backwater such as western Montana.
