Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation headquarters dedicated in Missoula, Montana

Measure it any way you like: Miles from Troy to Missoula. The years from 1984 to today. The numerical difference between four guys in Troy and 150,000 from around the country.

Any one of those measurements will begin to tell you how far the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation http://www.rmef.org/ has come from its oh-so-humble beginnings in Troy in 1984.

But the real measurement is an incalculable one – the distance between a dream and reality. Whatever that elusive figure, it’s precisely how far the Elk Foundation has come since Dan Bull floated his little idea to the Munson brothers and Charlie Decker.

“And that is mind-boggling,” Bob Munson, one of the foundation’s four founders, said Friday just before the nonprofit dedicated its new international headquarters at the mouth of Grant Creek in Missoula. “Absolutely mind-boggling.”
