Entrepreneurship and Rural Economic Development in Nebraska

Rural Development

Welcome to the portion of my website dedicated to Economic Development. Economic development is crucial to the Third District–for all of our communities and their survival into the future. In order to thrive in the 21st century and beyond, a community needs a strong economy that is both diverse and dynamic. Encouraging an entrepreneurial spirit and understanding and implementing the 21st century technology available to us are critical to the diversification of our economy.

My hope is that the Entrepreneurship Handbook http://www.house.gov/osborne/entrepreneur-toc.htm and the Rural Economic Development Handbook http://www.house.gov/osborne/econ_dev_toc.htm will provide a starting point for the continuing dialogue between all residents of the Third District, economic developers, young people and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). On this page, I have tried to bring together resources available to individuals, communities and providers–from how to get started to grant opportunities to models for success–who want to strengthen and diversify the local economies across Nebraska’s Third District.

These handbooks are not exhaustive, and any reference to private organizations does not connote endorsement either by me or by the United States House of Representatives. Yet, without the help of numerous local, state and federal organizations listed in the appendix, these handbooks would not have been possible.

Above all, these handbooks are a work in progress that belong to you, the people of the Third District. Please let me know how I can make them more responsive to your individual needs. I hope that you find this information helpful and inspirational.
