Should Wyoming bolt internet tax plan?

Through a barrage of full-page newspaper ads, a Casper couple is hoping to derail a years-long, multistate effort to collect taxes on Internet purchases.

John and Billie Jean Wirth placed the ads this past Sunday, Wednesday and Friday in the Casper Star-Tribune, imploring residents to urge lawmakers and Gov. Dave Freudenthal to reject a nearly nationwide plan that would require sellers to collect taxes on items bought through mail-order companies or online from out-of-state residents. These are taxes that are largely going uncollected.

The Wirths also suggest that voters "retire" U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., for sponsoring similar federal legislation.
