Workforce Development and Smart Growth

Workforce Development and Smart Growth: Opportunities for Linking Movements from the Funders’ Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities describes why funders who support working families can further their objectives by joining the movement calling for smart growth policies and practices.

This new second edition builds on the first edition on this topic that was originally released as the Network’s second Translation Paper in June 2000.

Written by Greg LeRoy, executive director of Good Jobs First, and Mafruza Khan, associate director of the Pratt Institute Center for Community and Economic Development (and formerly of Good Jobs First), Workforce Development and Smart Growth is a paper that describes the implications of sprawling patterns of development from the perspective of workforce development and articulates why funders who seek to help workers gain family-supporting skills and jobs should also consider becoming involved in the emerging movement calling for better decisions that would implement smarter growth policies and practices.
