Pasta Montana honored as Exporter of the Year

Pasta is one of Montana’s biggest exports, and the company that manufactures the most macaroni, spaghetti and such is being honored for making that happen.

Great Falls-based Pasta Montana http://www.pastamontana.com/ recently was honored as Exporter of the Year in the Montana District Export Council’s Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Awards for 2005.

"We didn’t realize that pasta ranks 13th in commodity exports from Montana (in 2004)," said Pasta Montana President Anthony Flagg. "We are very pleased to be recognized."

In the past eight years, pasta exports from Montana grew from less than $22,000 to $11.6 million. This year pasta ranks 12th in commodity exports.

Pasta Montana opened in 1997 and was purchased by Japan-based Nippon Group in 2000. Half of the plant’s production is sold outside the United States, with two thirds of that amount going to Japan, one third to Canada and some to Taiwan.
