Safe Shop Tools, Inc. of Missoula has the Answer to a Good Grasp: High-Tech Sling Provides the First Secure Grip on Tapered Utility Poles.

Safe Shop Tools, Inc. http://safeshop.com/ is unleashing the newest version of its BoaGrip™ http://www.boagrip.com below-the-hook rigging sling. Officials at the Missoula, Montana company explain that the BoaGrip uses patented grippers to hold tight to the shaft of any kind of utility pole: tapered or straight; metal or wood; wet or dry.

But company officials also say that the sling will be especially handy for utility crews working with tapered metal poles. They point out that until now, there was no way to get a good, quick grip on the shaft of a tapered pole. The problem was that chains and slings would simply slide upward. That meant the typical truck crew had to spend time clamping the truck’s boom to the shaft of the pole.

The only alternative was to fasten a sling to the pole’s cross arm (if one existed) — but that required an extra crewmember to keep the bottom of the pole from kicking out.
Safe Shop officials say the BoaGrip solves the problem by using patented, slip-resistant polymer traction bars. Even if a pole’s shaft is tapered, these SuperStick™ grippers hold fast. The reason is that when the BoaGrip is slipped around a pole and pulled taught, the tool’s polymer grippers are forced onto the pole’s surface; more force produces an even tighter grip. And that unique “squeezing” action saves time and manpower, because now crews can simply pick a spot anywhere above the “tipping point,” fasten the sling, and be ready to lift. Without clamping. And without jerry rigging.

This superior grip is further enhanced by a unique stainless steel Double-D™ master link that’s sewn onto the lifting end of the BoaGrip. A conventional nylon web-rigging sling has a simple sewn “eye” at either end; one eye slips though the other to form a choker, but the strap has to be slightly twisted. By comparison, the BoaGrip’s Double-D link ensures that the gripping surface is held flat all the way around the pole. In addition, the Double-D’s innovative inner link keeps the sling’s opposing gripper surfaces separate, so that unlike many other slings, the BoaGrip won’t bind or bunch when pulled.

The BoaGrip’s polymer bars grip tightly onto dry or wet surfaces. They also keep gripping, because they’re permanently bonded to the nylon sling using a proprietary process.

The BoaGrip has a rated capacity of 1900 lbs. and works for any kind of utility pole, including wood. Safe Shop Tools also makes a BoaGrip model for handling gas cylinders.
