Inventor offers additive for use in county fleet

Eleven years ago, Clyde Ritter set out to invent a fuel additive that would reduce airplane emissions.

He ended up with CA-40, a dark brown, sticky additive that he says can cut emissions and increase fuel economy in vehicles.

“It provides superior lubricant for the fuels and it is a combustion enhancer; that means your vehicle will burn more of the fuel that’s running through” it, said Ritter, of Bozeman.

Ritter — a former pilot who has worked in aviation engineering — believes so strongly in CA-40 that he has asked Butte-Silver Bow County to test it in its fleet of vehicles.
