DirecTV call center on direct track to go in Missoula

Construction will begin in December on a DirecTV call center in Missoula, company executives and a bevy of Montana officials said at a downtown news conference Tuesday.

“We’ll be in business by summer,” said John Suranyi, president of sales and service for the El Segundo, Calif.-based satellite television giant.

The company plans to employ about 800 people at the site, which will handle technical service questions from some of the company’s 15 million customers. The lowest starting wages at the center will be $9.50 an hour. The jobs also will offer health insurance, a retirement package and other benefits.

“We’re off to a good start here,” Baucus said, acknowledging that the nearly $18 million incentive package — mostly financed by the state and county — is a huge amount of money. “The company, I know, is committed to working with us.”
