What would lowering property taxes mean to Southeast Idaho?

Facing a growing wave of public dissatisfaction, State Rep. Dennis Lake knew his interim legislative committee had to come up with answers on how to alleviate the squeeze of property taxes in Idaho.

On Tuesday in Boise, Lake, a Blackfoot lawmaker and chair of an interim property tax committee, helped do just that. Problem is, the hard part is yet to come.

With property tax reform certain to be one of the weightiest issues facing the 2006 Legislature, Lake and other committee members have laid the groundwork for debate. Lawmakers know the longer they talk, the more antsy the public gets.
