MSU administrator, Thomas Gibson accepts position with Commissioner’s Office to lead distance education initiative

Montana State University treasurer Thomas Gibson, Ph.D., has accepted a position with the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, effective Nov. 1.

Gibson, who has held a variety of positions at MSU, including director of internal audit from 1980-1991, will help lead the Montana University System’s distance education initiative. Gibson will work with faculty, staff and students on all campuses to implement the statewide initiative.

Improving student access to the MUS through better-coordinated distance learning is a Board of Regents’ priority. Recognizing Gibson’s broad administrative experience and work in the field of distance learning, the Commissioner’s Office specifically approached him about leading this important effort, said commissioner Sheila Stearns.

"This is a great opportunity for Tom," said MSU President Geoff Gamble. "He has made significant contributions over his years with MSU and will leave a hole in our leadership team that will be difficult to fill."
