Florence, Montana opens door to community development

Organizers visualize Florence with an impressive community building – complete with meeting rooms, an amphitheater, and a place for children to hang out and play games.

But first, they want to find out if folks in Florence are imagining the same thing.

The Florence Civic Club is hosting an open house on the proposed Florence Community Center at Montana Westgate Realty on Friday, October 21 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Rob Downey, a family-care physician and chairman of the club’s steering committee for the project, hopes that the group can collect ideas, gather feedback, and just allow people to voice opinions at the open house.

“It’s an information-gathering session to generate interest, and to find out what people are thinking,” Downey said.

Over the past six months, steering committee members have recruited volunteers, organized public meetings, and solicited opinions on a design for a community center building.

Residents had a whole slew of suggestions, including basketball courts, computers, meeting rooms, a climbing wall, and gathering space for both seniors and families.
