Delta cutting Butte flights

Starting Dec. 1, daily connecting flights to SLC will be reduced from four to two

Delta Air Lines, which has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, will cut half of its flights at Bert Mooney Airport starting Dec. 1, Airport Manager Rick Griffith said Tuesday.

“All of the airports in Montana have been cut back by Delta at least two or three flights,” Griffith said. “They’re saying it’s for the winter, but I would expect it to be a long winter.” Delta representatives could not be reached for comment.

Delta and Northwest Airlines Corp. filed for bankruptcy in September after losing more than $30 billion in four years, the Associated Press reported.

In Butte, Delta traditionally contracts with SkyWest Airlines to operate four flights to Salt Lake City departing at 6 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.

In December, the 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. flights will be eliminated, Griffith said.

Horizon Airlines service will remain unchanged.
