How to beat tech screening in job applications
Filling out an electronic job application isn’t as easy a way to get a job as technology makes it look. First you have to get past the initial online screening process.
And remember, it’s usually not a human being who does the initial screening. Increasingly it’s a computer program that rules you in — or out.
"It looks easy to apply for a job on the Internet, so employers get hundreds of applicants for one job," said Kevin Marasco, director of marketing for Recruitmax Inc., a Jacksonville, Fla.-based provider of technology and services for hiring and workforce management.
"Because employers get so many responses, they prescreen by filtering the answers," Marasco said.
