Group reaches out to help schools – The Sidney Community Education Foundation

The new press box is expected to be ready for the last football game of the season.

When local football fans come to Sidney High School in upcoming years, they will see a facility with a new press box, concessions area and restrooms. That goes with the bleachers that were completed last year.

But the Sidney Community Education Foundation hopes those things are only the beginning. The foundation wants to continue playing a larger role in the community’s education in the future.

"We’re not here just to help athletics," said Terry Averett, president of the foundation. "We wish to do anything that helps the children."

Those projects could include such things as purchasing textbooks and computers for Sidney’s students, Averett said.

"We have a real desire as a board to accumulate funding to help do things in the school buildings themselves to help educate our children," Averett said. "They are the most precious resource we have."
