National Survey on Attitudes Towards Public Education Available

Phi Delta Kappa recently released, “The Public’s Attitudes Towards the Public Schools,” the organization’s 37th national survey on public education.

Americans strongly support public schools—69 percent of survey participants gave their local school an A or B rating. The public also believes there is an adequate amount of achievement testing in schools and supports more testing at higher grades. However, most Americans disapprove of the current emphasis on standardized exams and believe this encourages teachers to “teach to the test.”
