Stealthy startups are the rage in tech circles

Ex-RealNetworks exec’s company is a mystery

Former RealNetworks Vice President Andrew Wright is trying to keep a low profile around his new startup technology company.

But the founder of Redmond-based Muskoka Media — a secretive nine-month-old consumer Internet company — already has attracted plenty of attention from some heavyweights in the technology world.

RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser, Macromedia Chairman Rob Burgess and GameSpy founder Mark Surfas are just a few of the investors who pumped $1 million into the company earlier this year.

But for now, Wright — who built the RealArcade division into one of the leading distributors of casual computer games in the country — isn’t saying what type of business the new money will support or the direction he plans to take. However, the 43-year-old entrepreneur did say that Muskoka Media is not in the computer game segment.

"We are very early," said Wright, who before RealNetworks led the consumer imaging and publishing business at Microsoft. "But we are on to something that is very exciting."
