Kalispell electronics company, Cable Technology Inc. plans Great Falls plant

A Kalispell company plans to set up shop in downtown Great Falls, a move that could lead to 75 electronics assembly jobs in a couple of years.

Cable Technology Inc. http://www.cablemt.com , which has operated in Kalispell since 1997, will expand its operation to Great Falls this fall, said Ed Buttrey, the company president.

Cable Technology has been working with the Great Falls Development Authority and others for a number of months. A formal announcement of the deal is set for 10 a.m. today in the Commission Chambers of the Great Falls Civic Center.

"We are expanding the business," Buttrey said in a phone interview Tuesday. "We feel there is a good, motivated workforce in Great Falls."

The company will continue to have an operation in the Kalispell area.

Cable Technology plans to hire workers for the facility in phases, with a first round of 10 to 15 workers in September and another similar batch toward the end of the year.

Businessman says financial reasons driving move to Great Falls
But city native says he also is glad to be coming home

A Great Falls native from a family of business leaders said he’s expanding his high-tech company to the Electric City for business reasons first.

Ed Buttrey told a meeting of 50 business leaders Wednesday that he has been checking sites to expand his Kalispell-area Cable Technology Inc. for a couple of years and considered 10 other communities in three states.

He chose downtown Great Falls for a variety of financial reasons, including a great lease with Strain Properties that will let him pay more as his business on the second floor of the building at 400 Central Ave. expands, he said.

"But after making the decision based on finances, I’m glad we’re moving back home," said Buttrey, who praised the downtown redevelopment, well-motivated job force, the riverfront trail and other aspects that will provide a good quality of life for company workers.

Buttrey, 39, is a 1984 graduate of C.M. Russell High School.
