Students explore careers in research at McLaughlin Research Institute in Great Falls

Andrew Geiszler made an unexpected discovery as a summer intern at the McLaughlin Research Institute http://www.montana.edu/wwwmri/ .

"I discovered I was allergic to mice," the Great Falls High School senior said. McLaughlin houses as many as 12,000 mice in its research facility.

Even so, Geiszler thinks he could work in a laboratory, and has not given up on the idea of doing scientific research as a career.

"That wouldn’t stop me from working here," he said.

Six students, including two still in high school, immersed themselves in scientific research at the private Great Falls institute this summer.

Summer internships are common at a number of businesses and institutions across the state, adding to students’ resumes and helping them choose a career.

Interns at McLaughlin are bright and interested in science.
