National Association of State CIO’s (NASCIO) Releases IT Management Framework Document

NASCIO https://www.nascio.org/ , representing state CIOs, announced the release of IT Management Frameworks: A Foundation for Success https://www.nascio.org/nascioCommittees/itGovernance/itManagementFramework.pdf . A product of NASCIO’s IT Governance and Service Reform Committee, this brief provides an overview of four successful IT Management frameworks that can improve investment decisions, accountability and management of IT organizations.

These successful frameworks represent a variety of management approaches that emphasize the different disciplines of investment management, service-oriented management, and line of business or process management. They include the North Carolina Framework for Managing IT Investments, the Government Accountability Office IT Investment Management Framework (ITIM), the IT Infrastructure Library
(ITIL) and the Federal Business Reference Model (BRM).

"NASCIO is pleased to offer this brief as a valuable resource to assist state CIOs as they plan for the future of IT management," says Steve Schafer, administrator of the Financial Solutions section of Nebraska’s newly combined IT organizations and chair of NASCIO’s IT Governance and Service Reform Committee.

Schafer added, "A good framework for managing information technology can deliver huge dividends through effective planning, competent risk management, and strict accountability for meeting goals and performance expectations. The four management models provide a foundation for successful business practices and management of resources. States can choose a model that best fits their organizational needs."
