Boise-based group gives computers to area kids

Computers for Kids http://www.cfkidaho.org, a Boise-based non-profit group, has announced it will give computers to children from kindergarten to 12th grade.

The organization is the brainchild of Molli Wingert, a former math teacher in Boise. She conceptualized the idea during the 1999-2000 school year. She launched the program in 2001, giving computers to several students who helped her with a project.

"This is our first year in Idaho Falls," said Mark Wigle, a grant writer for Computers for Kids. "In Twin Falls, we gave away 250 in June."

The group gave away more than 1,000 computers in 2004, refurbished Pentium II and Pentium III class machines with Windows 98 operating systems donated to the group.
