Yahoo and Cal Berkeley partner on Internet research center

Yahoo Inc. said Friday that it has partnered with the University of California, Berkeley to open a new facility to study Internet technology.

Marc Davis, assistant professor at UCB’s School of Information Management and Systems, will lead the new center, which will open in August 2005.

Davis was the director of the "Garage Cinema Research" group, which studies the theory, design, and development of daily media. He was also a co-founder of UCB’s interdisciplinary Center for New Media.

The new facility gives Yahoo the opportunity to harness UCB’s research power to study the technology and trends behind Internet growth, search technology, and global media.
