Neptune Aviation of Missoula unveils next step in slurry bomber evolution

A prototype for the next generation of slurry bombers landed at Missoula International Airport and taxied noisily to the Neptune Aviation http://www.neptuneaviation.com/ hangar shortly after noon on Friday.

"We have to come up with a modern platform if we’re going to continue to fight fires," said Neptune owner and CEO Mark Timmons.

Also in Neptune’s bustling hangar Friday were Agriculture Undersecretary Mark Rey and Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., who was there to spend a day working as an airplane mechanic.
The plane selected for transformation to retardant tanker is a white Bombardier Dash-8 Q300 fresh from a humanitarian mission in Africa for the United Nations. The 50-seat aircraft is similar to planes used by Horizon Air on commuter flights from Missoula to Seattle.
