Growing concern – Local environmental consulting business, Geum Environmental Consultanting, Inc. of Hamilton, MT, prospers amid public’s surging ecological awareness

Less than two years ago, two plant scientists got together and decided to form a consulting company focused on ecological planning and restoration. They named their business after a plant native to Montana.

Last week, the company – Geum Environmental Consulting, Inc. – moved into a new office at 307 State Street in Hamilton. And just like the flowering forb for which the business was named, their growing and blossoming company is bringing a healthy beauty to the Bitterroot Valley.

Tom Parker, Sarah Flynn and Amy Sacry all had worked for a larger environmental consulting company in Missoula, and after Parker and Flynn decided to split off on their own in October 2003, Sacry soon followed, giving Geum a wide spectrum of expertise for working with Montana ecosystems, including grasslands, forests, riparian and wetland systems.

"We’ve taken a team approach since we started," Parker said. "We all have different strengths, so we complement each other."
