New venture capital program could help more rural companies in Colorado

The latest incarnation of Colorado’s state-backed venture capital program is up and running, and hopes are high the fund manager will find ways to direct more money toward companies in rural areas.

“There are lots of companies in rural Colorado that are interested in this money,” said Alice Kotrlik, director of the Business Finance Division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development.

High Country Venture LLC, which is affiliated with a venture capital company called Tango, announced last week it officially has begun managing a $25 million investment fund overseen by the Colorado Venture Capital Authority. High Country Venture will solicit and evaluate applications from companies interested in receiving venture capital; then the firm will decide whether to invest money in those companies.
