Mid-Rivers Telephone Cooperative provides high-quality telecommunications services as a vital part of Eastern Montana economic development.

High-speed Internet access and reliable phone service make it possible for Erin Lutts to telecommute.

She used to drive in to Glendive to work, but now does everything she needs to do from her ranch house 25 miles south of Wibaux, just across the border from where she was born in North Dakota.

It’s fitting that Lutts is able to work from home. She is in charge of rural economic development for the Mid-Rivers Telephone Cooperative http://www.midrivers.com/ , which provides telephone and Internet service for her and thousands of other customers across Eastern Montana.

Cooperatives supply telecommunications services all across the state, but none covers such a large swath of Montana as Mid-Rivers, and no other co-op in the lower 48 has such an extensive market. Serving an area about the size of West Virginia – 21 counties in Eastern Montana and three in North Dakota, encompassing 30,000 square miles – Mid-Rivers bills itself as the largest land-mass telephone co-op in the continental United States.

In a sparsely populated land where people rely heavily on electronic links to the outside world, Mid-Rivers views the provision of high-quality telecommunications services as a vital part of economic development.
