2-year degrees pay off, are in demand

Looking for a good job in Montana? A two-year education might be your ticket into a higher tax bracket.

Registered nurses, who must earn a two-year degree, earn an average wage that is 68 percent higher than the wages of people working in Montana’s private sector, the state Research and Analysis Bureau shows.

Other jobs that require two-year degrees, such as carpenter, auto mechanic and welder, earn more than the state’s average private sector annual wage of $25,657, said Eric Johnson, a supervisor with the state Research and Analysis Bureau.

Getting the training needed for these jobs can be tough because two-year degree programs fill up fast around the state.
