BioPay makes Utah debut – High-tech payment system uses fingerprint ID

For thousands of years, people have been using their fingers to steal. Now they can use their fingers to pay.

A high-tech fingerprint payment system reminiscent of futuristic Hollywood thrillers has made its way to Utah, debuting at a small chain of Utah County convenience stores.

BioPay, as it is called, lets customers pay by punching in a 10-digit access code, then putting their finger on a tiny scanning machine – no debit card, no checks, no ID required.

"Not only is it a good protection for the customers, it’s a good protection for us," said David Wiscombe, general manager of Combos convenience stores in Provo and Spanish Fork, where BioPay is now online.
