‘The secret is out’ and Forbes agrees: Boise is No. 1

Magazine rates city as top draw for talented workers

Po Huang, medical director of Saint Alphonsus Emergency Department, moved to Boise five years ago from Pittsburgh after carefully researching Intermountain cities such as Denver, Salt Lake City, Colorado Springs and Missoula. The ER doctor cited the high quality of Treasure Valley health care and the region’s outdoor opportunities as reasons he became a permanent resident of Boise.

Forbes http://www.forbes.com/ is the latest of several national organizations to single out out the Boise metro area.

Boise was listed second last month in Inc. magazine’s ratings of the best cities in America for business. The Inc. article mentioned Boise’s "low cost, regulation-friendly" atmosphere and noted it was popular with "refugees" from Boston, Austin and northern California.

In June 2003, Bike magazine listed Boise as No. 1 among the nation’s best mountain biking towns. The magazine praised Boise’s "strong job market, mild year-round temperatures and more amenities than you could rightfully expect in a town of this size."

Boise continues to get rave reviews as one of the best spots in the nation to do business.

Forbes magazine’s May 9 edition ranks the Boise metro area No. 1 on its annual Best Places for Business and Careers list, which rates 150 cities nationwide on their cost of doing business and ability to attract talented workers.

It’s the second accolade for Boise in as many months. In April, the metro area finished second in Inc. magazine’s annual list of "Best Cities to Do Business in America."

Experts said the Forbes ranking confirmed that the local economy continues to grow, attracting new businesses and residents to the Treasure Valley.
