UM builds ties with Ireland Cross-continental relations subject of conference

The Montana-Ireland Conference hosted by the University of Montana next week could be a turning point in an expanding relationship between Irish and Americans, said David Emmons, UM history professor emeritus.

Six representatives from Ireland’s University College Cork will arrive this weekend to speak alongside UM faculty and members of the Montana World Trade Center in roundtable discussions set for Monday and Tuesday.

The discussions, held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Dell Brown Room of Turner Hall, will explore the culture and history of Ireland, its immigrants to the United States and the future of its relationship with the United States. Each day’s discussions will be followed by a keynote speaker at 7 p.m. in the UC Theater.
