Laurel, Montana plans future business growth

To comply with Montana law, Laurel has adopted a Growth Management Plan (GMP) to enforce its zoning and planning regulations. This is the third in a series of articles summarizing the contents of the plan authored by Laurel City Planner, Cal Cumin.
Laurel's economic foundation is closely tied to the community's long held relationships with the CHS Laurel Refinery, railroad industries, its proximity to Billings and its regional business ties. Local businesses and a substantial tourism business help underpin the multifaceted local economy.
The Laurel Growth Management Plan's Socio-Economic element leans heavily on research conducted by students at Rocky Mountain College in 2003.
The research identifies Laurel's seven largest businesses as:
