Modwest (Missoula) completes architecture upgrade

Modwest http://www.modwest.com , a provider of shared and managed internet solutions, announced today that the company has completed its migration to a new modular hardware architecture. Benefits of the new architecture include increased availability, performance, scalability, and ease of management.

The new architecture is based on storage area network (SAN) technology and space-saving ‘blade’ servers.

SAN storage enhances reliability for Modwest hosting customers, and improves storage scalability and manageability for Modwest server administrators.

Blade servers are modular servers built with a single motherboard and integrated network switches and power supplies. The design saves rack space and includes a centralized management interface, allowing Modwest administrators to quickly provision, deploy, and repurpose servers as the need arises.

"For our load-balanced cluster of web hosting servers, the SAN and blade solution was a perfect fit from a staffing and equipment scalability perspective," commented Modwest VP Technology and co-founder Allen Lee.

The migration from older standalone servers to the new architecture began in March 2004 and was completed with virtually no service interruptions, preserving the company’s overall service availability at over 99.9%.
