Buck Knives to take job applications for 150 positions in mid-November

Buck Knives Inc. will begin accepting applications in mid-November for 150 job openings in Post Falls.

The company expects to fill the positions over a period of six weeks, Tom Ables, Buck Knives’s spokesman, said Tuesday. Interviews will begin Dec. 10, with the first group of hires starting work in early January, he said.

The San Diego-based maker of sport and utility knives is moving to Post Falls to lower its costs. In recent years, Buck Knives has been looking for ways to trim expenses and stay competitive against Asian imports. Both electricity and labor costs are cheaper in North Idaho than in California.

The new plant will open in early 2005. So far, construction is running right on schedule, Ables said. Last week, Post Falls issued the second building permit for the 128,000-square-foot structure, valued at $7.7 million.

Buck Knives is still establishing wage rates for the positions, Ables said. People interested in learning more about the jobs should contact Coeur d’Alene’s Job Service office in the fall, he said. The number is (208) 769-1558.
